Sheep Dip

Formed in 1989, Sheep Dip became a firm staple in the local music scene for some time through the 90's and beyond.
Their debut at the Shetland Folk Festival came back in 1990. The original Sheep Dip line-up was made up of James Erikson, and sisters Jacqui Brown (nee Smith) and Diane Wood (nee Smith), who remain core members to this day. They perfomed alongside the late fiddler Leonard Scollay. Throughout the years, their core sound has remained rooted in bluegrass, blending fiddle, guitar, mandolin, 5-string banjo, bass, and vocals. An early pioneer of Shetland Bluegrass, Sheep Dip were known for their mix of Shetland, Scottish, Irish, Appalachian, and Canadian influences, all delivered with a signature flair. If a tune took their fancy, they’d play it—always with that unmistakable sound.
Joining the band on 5-string banjo is Andy Bazeley, who came on board in the mid-'90s. The latest addition to the lineup is the young and talented Adam Johnson (CRAC), who brings exceptional guitar and some great vocals to the mix. Adam fits in perfectly with the group’s seasoned musicians.
Over the last years the band regularly get together to practice and discuss their favourite Bluegrass tunes and try out some old tunes and have integrated one or two modern ones .
We think you will enjoy their performance whether you saw them in their early days or whether you are discovering their sound for the first time.
